We were in Gran Canaria last March. The section of the island we were on looked more like a place where they would do location shots for moon landing films. Didn’t see many trees at all. The weather was beautiful, which is why we were there on a break from the cooler weather at our home.

It looked like a lot of volcanic leftovers. We have similar area east of us in Almeria, the only European desert where they filmed a bunch of Spaghetti Westerns because it looked so bleak and barren. I guess there must be a part of Gran Canaria with more trees but it wasn't on the part of the island we were at.
