It amazes me when I see couples who are dining out stare at their phones the entire time.
That is not a marriage or relationship I would want to be in.

"It was also costing potential customers in the cozy, 19-seat space as students and remote workers turned a $3 cup of coffee into a three-hour stay".
With customer no longer as likely to take up seats in the cafe the turnover is higher, and with that comes more revenue and profits.
But profits aren't something progressive Brookline residents like to talk about, even though they and their wealthy neighbors living in multi-million dollar houses certainly earn a lot of money somehow. So we've got the story.
In a way, I support her, however, when I first got into business, I use Panera to meet customers and it helped me. Seeing couples at a table staring at their computers instead of talking is troublesome, but then it helps kids behave better with a tablet...
During our family get togethers all phones are turned off and put in a basket.
