I'm actually thinking the idea of arranged marriages might be a good thing when two consenting adults grow up....that, and like the Mormons, get engaged very early with someone from your own faith....
Inasmuch as I spent much of my military career OCONUS, I knew any number of men/ladies, who were married by familial contract when they were CHILDREN.
(Among many Amer-Indian cultures of the Eastern Woodland People, the mothers/grandmothers/female elders of the tribe APPROVE/DISAPPROVE OF matches for girls/warriors & bride-prices had to be paid to the bride’s mother. = Those tribes are matriarchal societies. = In some A-I Nations, a boy’s mother owns everything except his horse(s), clothing & weapons until he marries. At his marriage, his mother transfers his property to his bride. - That WISE system assures that if a warrior dies that the wife/wives & children are NOT left destitute & pitiful.)
One young matron who worked in my office told my secretary that she “truly feels sorry for” girls who did NOT grow up KNOWING which boy that she was contracted to as a bride.
