iFixit compared the practice to having a “Check Oil” light in a vehicle that can only be deactivated at a Ford dealership.

Or GE putting RFID chips on their refrigerator water filters and charging $45.00 for a $15.00 filter. So, you either live with the '99 days overdue message on the door' or spend the extra money. The non-RFID filters fit, but the software won't let it dispense water without it.

The non-RFID filters fit, but the software won’t let it dispense water without it.

And I want all my software to be cloud apps!!!

And never to actually own anything.
