The tip-off is: The NRA's organizational position was clear. They didn't want to prohibit convicted domestic abusers from purchasing guns. Why? Because any gun purchaseeven by a dangerous personincreases profits for gun manufacturers, and any regulationeven common-sense onesis to be opposed.

I went through that age and when the anti-gun Jihad started in the '60s, gun owners were getting beat to death as the NRA thought fighting back was beneath them. The membership raised Hell and they got into the lobbying business in a big way.
