The Trump administration agreed Thursday (26 Oct 17) to pay $3.5 million to tea party groups snared by IRS targeting during the Obama administration, saying the intrusive scrutiny was illegal and cannot be allowed to happen again.

The government also reversed its tune on former IRS senior executive Lois G. Lerner. Instead of being a hero who tried to stop the targeting — as the Obama administration concluded in 2015 — the Justice Department and IRS now say she failed to stop her employees and hid the bad behavior from her bosses for two years.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who announced the settlements, offered an apology to more than 450 groups that were part of two lawsuits against the IRS.

As part of the agreements, the government admitted that the IRSforced tea party groups into illegal delays and unconscionable scrutiny, including questions about their political beliefs, plans to run for office and names of financial backers.

“There is no excuse for this conduct,” Mr. Sessions said in a statement announcing the settlements. “Hundreds of organizations were affected by these actions, and they deserve an apology from the IRS

“...Obama proven guilty of hate crimes. ...”
He, and the whole evil ilk just like him, should be doing time in a federal pen.

Not meaningful unless she is prosecuted and loses pension, maybe jailed. Both would be best. It is wrong to sweep this under the carpet.

So in other words, the IRS and Lois got away with their crimes. They lied, cheated, obstructed justice for what, a decade? Kept certain Tea Party groups from using the existing laws for their cause, and instead burned up a lot of their time and resources trying to get justice.

I would say the IRS and Lois can say “mission accomplished”. No downside, moved the ball down the field, no penalty. Many are still in place doing how much additional damage behind the scenes.

They write this on Aug 7? How long has Jeff Sessions been gone? What are they trying to deflect from?

You screwed up. You posted an article from October 2017 and said in your post that it was published today.

Jeff Sessions mention made it obvious. I can’t believe no one called you out on it until now.

I am reporting abuse.

That money will come from us, the taxpayers, but there is another way.

Take it out of the retirement pay those who were complicit in this. Start with Lois Lerner, Obama, and Holder and go from there. No need to put the taxpayers on the hook for this.

Most telling, in one of the more bizarre episodes (among so very many in recent years) in testimony to congress, she appeared to demand that her actions remain sealed, with the reasoning that the American people would want to kill her, or her family, or somesuch.

Seems to me that would or should give pause to most well-adjusted people “Hm, maybe ... maybe I shouldn’t be doing this in the first place”.

Nome sayin’??? LOL

Instead of her going to jail they send the U.S. taxpayer a bill. Organizations were affected and they deserve an apology from the IRS. Is that a joke? Meanwhile Lerner enjoys her fat pension.
