The robotic tail is designed to help the wearer to stay balanced when moving quickly or carrying heavy objects. A robotic tail that claims to balance out the human body could be used instead of a cane to help prevent elderly people from falling over.
The strap-on appendage, known as Arque, has been developed by researchers at Keio University in Japan.
It is inspired by a seahorse's tail, which is strong enough to withstand predators' bites but flexible enough to grip things in its environment, like coral.
The tail can be be adjusted to fit whoever is wearing it by adding or removing modular "vertebrae",

I don't know but this guy might like having a tail.
I could see this making the lifting and moving of heavy objects safer.
There might be a good market for that.
Clearly your extra front “leg” just doesn’t have enough mass to get the job done.
Robotic tail - thought this was an ad for another creepy s*x doll.
Lots of elderly people in my family have started down the final road after falling over and breaking a brittle bone. Falls are the cause of lots of elderly deaths. It's usually complications from the fall, not the fall itself that causes the death.
But is this practical for the elderly to wear on their strolls? I doubt it.
I can just see all the elderly headed to the dining hall at the "old folks home" wearing their tails. I'll bet tail-collisions would cause far more falls than ever occurred in pre-tail days.
And speaking of manspreading, I have noticed that when space is available, women will sit in one seat and then place all their stuff in the seat next to them.
Seems women and their stuff take up just as much space as a man trying to give the “boys” some space.
Tail works pretty good as a weapon for gators... Though their brains don’t.
It's been a hobby of older people for quite a long time.
Does it come in a Tyrannosaurus rex style, for flailing about at adversaries?
Evolutionist heads exploding EVERYWHERE !
>>Hillary needs one.<<
She already has one...red, forked, and prehensile.
Clearly? You want it dontcha?
“Hillary needs one.”
Probably. But right now she’s busy using another type of strap-on.
With the elderly it is a huge issue.

Yep - when the problem is a weak or gimpy leg, adding weight at an angle only increases the stress on the leg.
