“Someone I know is planning on doing this run in three weeks.” From old thread.
This reminded me.
Did your friend make the Grand Canyon run?
And hopefully, he returned better than ever!
Maybe a tiny bit of sunburn.

That was my second thought after attacks by the local youths?
The article noted the neighborhood had improved over the years. Could it have gotten worse than twenty-four years ago?

Looks very similar to eight times winner Ashprihanal Aalto from Helsinki Finland!

You got to be nuts. Sixty miles a day on the same course? Sixty miles in each of the 48 contiguous states (57 if you are Obozo)—now that would be a goal worth doing.

This is Mr. Aaltos 15th time completing one of the hardest footraces in the world, which requires runners to cover 3,100 miles over 52 days.
He also holds the record at 40 days.
My dentist has completed every Chicago Marathon since the first in 1977, but his main focus is Ultras. Still running all original equipment.

It happened to me...not knees, just hips (both of them). Years ago my Cardiologist, who had warned me about my weight, told me that I'd wear my joints out from the rather radical exercise regimen I had adopted.
And she was right.

Perhaps not:
From the article:
has won the race eight times now

15-20yrs from now, they’ll all have ankle, knee and hip replacements, or be in wheelchairs with PT 3x/ week.

Feet, knees and hips only hold-up for so long, with that kind of punishment.

Some people love falling into a routine.
By the end of the race, I bet that half-mile course was very familiar. As in, 6200 laps familiar.
To: DUMBGRUNT
Its about the joy of transcending your limits and applying that to your life going forward
I get that same feeling every morning I'm able to set my feet on the floor when I get out of bed.
I save myself 60 miles and who knows what kind of crap that running would do to my body..........
