Before the advent of PCR technology we knew there was a gram negative bacillus that was a common inhabitant within the dog and cat mouth that in some instances was quite lethal and was named CF-2 and was observed in some infections after a dog bite. There was also a later designation of DF-2 and later the identification of the C. Canimorsus.
