ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) An Arlington Police officer shot and killed a woman at Cantor and Collins in North Arlington around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
He was apparently shooting at a loose dog coming towards him, when the woman lying in the grass was struck.
The officer was not hurt.
Arlington police officers, the Arlington Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to a welfare check in which the caller reported that a woman was passed out in a grassy area near Cantor Drive and N. Collins Street.
As the officer began to approach what appeared to be a woman lying in the grass, he noticed there was also a loose dog, police said in a news release.
As the officer called out to the woman repeatedly concerning her welfare, the dog began to run towards the officer while barking.
The officer walked backwards from the running dog while drawing his gun.
The officer fired it multiple times towards the dog.
After the shots were fired, the woman yelled out and it was apparent she was injured, police said in the news release.

I run the Jack Booted Thugs ping list. I respect and admire that thin line of blue that stands between us and a total breakdown of law and order in our crime ridden society.
BUT as long as there are cops who protect the sociopaths among them I will shine the spotlight on them.
Any police department (or university faculty, or military unit, etc.) is only as good as the worst psycho they tolerate. ~ H/T RedStateRocker
When a cop or department does something exceptionally good, I'll use that list to highlight them too.
Cop will be fired. Should also be charged with at least manslaughter.
He had no business shooting at the dog. Either he is a terrible shot or the woman was directly behind the dog.
I used to do a lot of running. I heard about the trick of acting like you are picking up a rock. Dogs will quiet down and back off then. Rocks have been around for longer than guns and dogs know to avoid rocks.
The police don’t expect me or anyone else to love them because they’re paid professionals. You’re confusing love with respect. I respect them enough to stay out of their way and I think they wish more of the people they serve and protect would do the same.
I *think* it was her dog. OF COURSE the dog would be exactly between his downed master and the threat, the psychopath with a gun.
Oh that were were the people our dogs think we are...
The dog was probably trying to prevent the policeman from approaching the woman, which is why he tried to shoot it.
This is a pretty bad mistake by a rookie cop. I am sure he will at least be fired, even if cops are often allowed a lot of leeway in shootings.
I guess he was a rookie, because he didn’t drop a gun, and say the woman pointed it at him.
Why was the woman passed out on the grass? Was the dog hers? What kind of dog was it? Maybe we should check in on Tweaker Hunters to find out what was going on.
