Gold is gold. A couple of mils of gold plating over silver, is all.
"Olympic Gold medals are required to be made from at least 92.5% silver, and must contain a minimum of 6 grams of gold.[6] All Olympic medals must be at least 60mm in diameter and 3mm thick."

Olympic Gold medals are required to be made from at least 92.5% silver, and must contain a minimum of 6 grams of gold. Which makes that new habit of biting your gold medal to test it even sillier. You might scratch the gold plate but you'll break your teeth on the silver.
