I enjoyed the movie, too. But the movie is a distorted shadow of the book. And I’ll let it explain what “the franchise” is and how it’s earned.
The movie shares the title and some partial character names, and has Arachnids in it. Otherwise, they dumped the entire content of the book. It covers growing up, learning responsibility, some philosophy on the reasons people do the things they do, and ways people could make things better, for a time at least. All wrapped in a very good story.
