Dutch cellist Anner Bylsma has passed away aged 85.
A student of Carel van Leeuwen Boomkamp at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Mr Bylsma was a former 1st prize winner at the Pablo Casals International Cello Competition and served from 1962 until 1968 as Principal Cellist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Our condolences are with his family, friends, colleagues and students.
How did she compare to Dupre? Any opinions?
I mean he.
Memory eternal.
Concertgebouw? Wonder if she played with Paul McCartney?
I think one can prefer one interpretation of a piece over another, but these are both legendary performers, although Dupre was given far fewer years ;-(
Yo-Yo Ma may still be playing her Davidov Strad.
Perhaps the folks over at Talk Classical will touch on this - there is a thread at :

I had no idea he was that old. Have a couple of his recordings. Anyway, after 85 years of accomplishment, no mourning is needed, merely “congratulations on a life well lived.”
Rest In Peace
That reminds me that I need a cello. Thanks.
