Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar believes illegal immigrants are entitled to free, taxpayer-funded abortions in America.
On Monday, the Democratic representative argued that abortions are “medical care” and those crossing the border illegally deserve easy access to them, the Daily Caller reports.
“No one should fear receiving medical care because they are undocumented. We must ensure that all people in our country have access to reproductive health care,” Omar wrote on Twitter.
Under the tweet, she shared a Vox article that argues her radical pro-abortion position.
“Immigration and reproductive rights are often treated as separate issues by the media and the public,” the article asserts. “But advocates say that for people living under threat of deportation in America today, there’s no separating the two.”
The idea that Omar and Vox are promoting is radical and out of touch with most Americans’ views on abortion. They are advocating for separating mothers from children at the border – just in a different, more permanent and violent way.
Many Americans do not believe aborting an unborn baby is a compassionate option for anyone, especially a refugee fleeing her country in the hopes of a better life. Both the mother and her baby deserve support and protection.

Most Americans do not support taxpayer-funded abortions, either. A 2016, Politico/Harvard University poll found that just 36 percent of likely voters support taxpayer funding for abortions, while 58 percent oppose it. A January poll by Marist University found similarly strong opinions, with 75 percent saying they oppose taxpayer-funded abortions and 19 percent support them.
This is not the first time Omar has expressed radical pro-abortion views. In February, she slammed President Donald Trump after he called for an end to the slaughter of late-term unborn babies in abortions during his State of the Union address, according to the Daily Caller.
“If Trump thinks pivoting from his failed vanity wall to policing women’s bodies and choices is going to help his 2020 chances he has another thing [sic] coming,” Omar replied in a tweet.
She also trashed pro-life Christians in a House floor speech in May. Omar claimed that they are trying to impose their views on the nation, even though pro-life laws would merely protect the human rights of every human being.
“I rise today to defy the horrifying attacks happening against women’s reproductive rights all across this country,” Omar said. “Religious fundamentalists are currently trying to manipulate state laws in order to impose their beliefs on an entire society, all with complete disregard for voices and the rights of American women.
“The recent efforts like those in Alabama, in Georgia, are only the latest in a long history of efforts to criminalize women for simply existing, to punish us when we don’t conform to their attempts to control us,” she continued.
Ironically, she called the laws to protect human rights before birth “a dangerous violation of human rights.”

My grandfather came though Ellis Island in 1899. To get in, he had to prove that he he was disease free had the means and sponsors to avoid becoming a public charge. Things are obviously different now.
