Y'know, that reminded me of a passage about Friedrich Krupp in William Manchester's "The Arms of Krupp." Friedrich - son of the first "Cannon King" and father of the real "Big Bertha" - would go on holiday to the isle of Capri accompanied by young men who would... umm... "dart back and forth."

It didn't end well.
