His fault was in not seeing the future clearly. He had no way of knowing that it would result in a system of indoctrination instead of education. Plus socialism hadn’t reared its poisonous head before his death.

Jefferson's concern was a strange one because people naturally learn things; they have to. As an Enlightenment guy he probably wanted to re-educate people as a way of engineering the society of the future.
