LEDs flicker as the AC current switches polarity. Unavoidable unless enough ac to dc rectification occurs but that makes a bulb more costly and bulky.

Why is it that even bulbs used in an auto application flicker? That one really puzzles me.

I believe LEDs only run on DC (there’s a polarity). I guess as a diode, there are part of the rectifier themselves?

My electronics skills have really declined over the past two decades so...
