I know what you mean about the ripeness. I try and get them not so hard and it is usually a day or 2 wait.

Hot, hot, and more hot here in Central Missouri over the past week. We finally got some rain over the weekend, and are enjoying a temporary break in the high temps.
The cooler weather might motivate me to get the weed whacker out and do some trimming in the garden. I really need to dig my garlic but I can’t find it. LOL

Certainly. You can also spray them with Roundup and they won’t die, LOL!
Just dig out a clump, replant and stand back. I have never worried about timing, other than giving them enough growing time to get established prior to a hard freeze/frost.
They can make a mess if you don’t cut off the flower heads - one corner beneath one of my raised beds is proof of that! ;)

These are ‘cha cha’ chives. Can’t find ‘patent’ information on them so I’m going to divide away.
They don’t make seeds, just little poofy mini chive plants at the top of the stems.
I got 2 from burpee in ‘16 IIRC and put them in 3gal nursery containers. They’ve filled those completely so I’m looking to give them some space.
The mini chive plants are GREAT on baked potatoes or whatever. Salads too.
Your post made me feel great. I’m not the only person who loses garlic in the garden :)
I’ll have to check that one out. I just have the standard, boring Chives with the pinkish/purple blooms.

Ideal lo-cal dessert. Elegant bavarian attractively molded, served in puddle of strawberry sauce.
Strawberry Bavarian Cream
METHOD Pour cup boiling water over 3 oz pkg s/f strawberry Jello; stir/dissolve. Separately, add cool water to juice from frozen strawberries---make one cup. Stir into Jello. Chill/partially set. Elec/mixer foamy. Stir in pkg drained frozen sliced berries, 1/2 pint whipping cream (or cool whip). Fill wet glass mold w/ jello cream. Chill.
SERVE unmolded in stemware in puddle of fresh strawberry sauce. Garnish w/ fresh berries, mint sprig.
ING pkg frozen sliced strawberries, thawed and drained (save juice) cup boiling water 3 oz. s/f strawberry Jello 1/2 pt. whipping cream or small Cool Whip 1-2 qt. fresh strawberries pureed for sauce mint sprigs

Decadent Strawberries / version of Strawberries Romanoff
Freezer 1 1/2 hours (edges firm up--center jiggles) combined cup h/cream,
2 c buttermilk, 3/4 c sugar, 1/2 tea vanilla. Beat smooth. Serve cream chilled.
Pour 1/2 cup cream over fresh cold strawberries sweetened w/ 1/4 c conf (chill berries 15 min).
Thyme seeds are small enough they easily get lost in the chaff. If you’re only saving them for yourself, I’d say don’t worry about the chaff too much.
Take a dry branch and tap it gently over a piece of paper, or put several branches inside a bag and shake it. Use a fine-mesh screen to get out the bigger pieces of debris, but its ok to leave the smaller bits.
To test when the seeds are ripe, bend a branch over a piece of white paper and tap it gently. You’ll be able to see the seeds more easily that way. They will shatter out as you collect them, so you may want to bag the branches as you pick, depending on how much seed you need to gather.

Looks delicious, as always! My Birthday is in July so my ‘Birthday Cake’ of choice as a kid was always an Angelfood Cake with strawberries and whipped cream on top. :)
We have a large slope along the driveway leading to the house, so we've been adding wildflowers here for a number of years, now. It's looking good this season with all of the rain.
my garden is not doing much.....no fruits on any of my squash or cukes although I have some blossums....
Jungles are good—lotsa oxygen!
I went down there yesterday - just to check. Not only are some plants at least 5 feet tall, some are 6 foot and some others (they seem like corn but it’s not corn) are hitting 7 feet tall. It truly is a jungle, LOL.
Somewhere, buried in there, a tomato plant grows with a few tomatoes and about 15-18 onions are in there. Maybe a few more (a little too close together but I gotta go with what I got).
Too hot so far today to transplant the starters. I learned my lesson after putting out plants that couldn’t take the heat a couple of years ago (my squash starts - had 10 - 12 they all looked strong (but young). Heat wiped ‘em out in no time). Once they go out, I’ll put them in more shaded areas.
