Let's do this. Me and you stroll down to the lake, collect some water in a test tube and analyze it to see if it's fresh or salt water.
If there's a tunnel to the sea, wouldn't the salt water take over the lake?
I'm no marine biologist (I'm an architect/Vandalay Industries), but that seems to make sense in a sciency kinda way.
That way we can avoid arguing from positions of ignorance (both of us).
The altitude at China lake is 2300 feet. So unless you can figure out how to make sea water run uphill naturally you aren’t going to find salt water.
BTW there is no water in China Lake. It is a dry lake bed.
