Maybe it's a west coast/east coast thing.

Africans on the west coast were influenced by western European exploration and expansion.

Africans on the east cost were influenced by Asian influences.

Compare Nigerians to Ethiopians and Somalians.

Compare Moroccans to Egyptians and Saudis.
