That is because it is always easier to destroy than to build. It is also easier to be weak than strong. The leftwing ideology offers weak people a way to feel superior to stronger people, and the price is to hate and destroy everything that was built before them.
Think of how teenagers like to sit around and talk about how stupid the adults are, and how much better everything would be if the teenagers ran the world (even though the teenagers are ignorant of literally everything). Now imagine a political ideology which feeds that teenage vanity. That is modern leftism - but only at the footsoldier level. Once everything is destroyed, then the real stalinists walk in and take over.
