What’s worse is easy - the CGI keeps breaking the suspension of disbelief. Cartoon animals can show expressions on their faces. They can smile, laugh, frown, sneer. CGI animals meant to be photo-realistic can’t - you have to infer some emotion into the blank stares of these animals. And you keep expecting to see Kimba- excuse me, Simba - attack and kill some of the small prey animals he hangs out with.

I LOVE the original version of The Lion King. I even have it on Blu-ray disc.

Great observation. CGI's technical achievement in creating realism is unquestioned, yet fantasy is what entertains.
