The Muslim world, aka mostly the Middle East, has lots and lots of oil. Take away oil revenues (that were entirely the product of western effort and input, until the Middle Eastern countries were taught the word "nationalize"), and the entire Middle East has the economic productivity of Belgium.

(Even with all that oil, their total GDP doesn't match Germany.)

Size comparison... Germany in maroon... Belgium in purple, just to its left... the Middle East being those 14 nations taking up the bottom third of the map.
