TPTB were quite happy to let Epstein off the hook, and never have him mentioned again in public.
I suspect Trump actually had a hand in reviving public and prosecutorial interest in Epstein

My thought is Trump May have opened the Green Door because New York officials have been after him for a while and if a names list was revealed you can bet a lot of those New York politicos will be caught up in the investigation. Sweet.
