Is there typically fire and smoke evident at a gas explosion?

abandoned/empty restaurant. Coupled with the paucity of inflammable materials used in construction, not unusual. Blast patter seems to indicate internal source, as others have speculated, probably a natural gas leak/explosion.

Little smoke and no fire usually is NOT the result of a natural gas explosion. Little smoke and no fire is the signature of a bomb.
