Why would it “veer off course”? Is there steering involved.

It’s orbiting the sun, but not on a more or less circular orbit like earth’s, but on a squashed out oblong orbit. So it can pass by other planets, moons, other asteroids, etc., that gravitationally tug at it and can cause it to “veer off” course.

I'm not sure. Apparently so, that or the wind will catch it. Looks like I'm going to have to start carrying an umbrella in October.
