The article cites the oxygen production from a lawn, but the pollution complaint is about smog, particulates. There’s no reason to think that a lawn does anything about particulates. Those are mostly from automobiles. It’s a dumb article.

Dust. Dry lawns get dusty and that contributes to particulates. Especially whe you park your cars in the lawn.
