Yes. I was surprised to see Portuguese at the top instead of Italian. Also, Italian is not found anywhere on the map! I didn’t realize that until your comment. I dated several wonderful Italian girls in Pennsylvania way back.

Different surveys in different years give different answers. According to one 2014 survey, Italian was on top in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Southern Massachusetts had a large population from Portugal and the Azores, and there's more recent immigration from Brazil and Cape Verde throughout the state. Most Italian-Americans are second or third or fourth generation and no longer speak the language, even in Rhode Island and New Jersey, the states with the highest percentage of Italian-Americans.
