I was out after about an hour...but took a long time to live it down, don’t cha know
“Overnight in Dept. store” has some cool stories. One was a book I read when I was a little kid. Actually this was a grocery store. The guy broke in and set up a room in the attic. He lived there, and would steal food at night, and retreat to his loft during the day and read comic books.
Another was an old time radio broadcast, a horror or Suspense! kind of deal. The guy falls asleep or somehow ends up in the store after hours. He hears a night watchman, gets scared, and so freezes like a mannequin. The night watchman strolls by in the dark, crisis is past.
Then, while standing motionless, all the other mannequins start to come to life, turns out there is this whole society that comes alive at night and does stuff in the basement. That story kinda scared me, because I could imagine it. Radio when done right can be plenty scary as a movie.
The best store mannequin was Barney Fife on Andy Griffith. Catching shoplifters don’tcha know.
