Being of Irish blood...having had an 18 year old niece killed by a drunk driver...*and* having worked in a big city ER for decades...taught me just how breathtakingly devastating alcohol can be.

Possibly almost as pernicious is the less obvious and catastrophic harm it does, the way it is able to keep you from being the person you can and want to be while not being bad enough to force you to change.
