And in the old world, that display would have benefits. In the modern world, however, women have no need of a provider. They either earn their own money, or they have Uncle Sucker pay for everything. As a result, men who buy women (who they aren't already sleeping with) dinner now are simply demonstrating that they are marks, chumps, and suckers.
