I got it in 1979. Ran out of boiled water (no filters in those days) and drank “raw” from a high country pasture. Just that one time is all it took.

We drank from streams in the late 60s, just dipped our Sierra cups into the streams. The giardia problem did not begin in the Sierras until the late 70s.
