A woman was bitten on the face by a dog in Brooksville after trying to kiss it, deputies say.
It happened early Wednesday morning. Hernando County Sheriff's deputies and Fire Rescue were called to Canal Drive in Brooksville about a dog bite.
Deputies say four adults share the residence. Two of the people had recently rescued a 200 pound Bull Mastiff from a man known only as Mike in Floral City.
Two of the residents got home late after a night at the bar, and the dog became aggressive and started growling at all four residents.
One said they had only had the dog for a week or so, and it had never shown aggression before.
For unknown reasons, one woman approached the dog and leaned down to kiss it on the face. The dog then bit her on the face, on the left cheek and lip area.
Another person was also bitten by the dog on the hand when he tried to intervene.
THe residents were eventually able to corral the dog it to a bedroom.
The woman was taken to a local hospital and transferred transferred to a trauma center where her injuries could be addressed by a plastic surgeon.
The dog was taken to Hernando County Animal Services. They tell us with any animal bite, the standard procedure is a 10-day rabies quarantine for the animal. We wont know what happens next for this animal until after this time period has passed.

No, dogs do not like aggressive behavior. Coming directly up to a dog and getting in its face is a sign of aggression. Looking directly in the eye of a strange dog is an act of aggression. The dog did what is natural to its species.
When you approach a strange dog, you should always do it from the side. Do not make direct eye contact. Keep your tail between your legs too, if you have one.
I’d have picked up on the growling.
The only dog I own that I get up in its face is our long haired Chihuahua. Sometimes he bites me on the lip when he gets excited.
1. 200 lb. Bull Mastif. Monster dog.
2. Got home late after a night at the bar. All of them drunk.
3. Only had the dog for a week and it never showed aggression before. DUH!
4. For unknown reasons, one woman approached the dog and leaned down to kiss it on the face. Never try to kiss a 200 lb dog you don't know on the face when drunk.
5. Another person was also bitten by the dog on the hand when he tried to intervene. Never put your hand into the middle of a dog attack.
6. The dog became aggressive and started growling at all four residents. Never have four people live together who are so stupid to do all of the above.
I’ve found that Chihuahua’s have what I call the Napoleon or hitler Complex. AKA- Vertically Challenged with a bad attitude...
The dog can’t be blamed on this one. When a dog is growling, they are saying, leave me alone, I don’t want to be messed with, go away. It is the same thing with a person. They say leave me alone, and you continue to screw with them, they are liable to let you have it. The dog was blamed for doing something he should not be blamed for.
No one likes drunks. Even other drunks.
You can’t fix stupid.
