p.s. The previous images were intentionally left Yuge for emphasis.
Exactly what do you think you are seeing in that image? A real photo of the whole earth? A composite of partial photos taken at low orbit? Complete cgi/artist rendering? Something else?
Here is a link to another “official” photo of earth and its moon supposedly taken from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) in 2016 at 127 million miles away. Yet remember, we can’t go back to the moon cuz it’s just too hard, according to NASA. “The amazing new photo [according to NASA] is actually a composite of two separate exposures taken to calibrate HiRISE, which is so powerful...” MY God, these people are shameless. Forget about that blazing sun allegedly 93 million miles from earth, that shines so brightly during the day here on earth— just darkness all around the earth and moon with no source of illumination to account for the ‘sunny sides’ in the MRO image and the image you posted.

I felt sorry for the guy who had to turn the crank to get the elevator to the top.
Yes, I do see the problem. It’s like I explained, since you can’t very well take a picture showing both the earth and moon side by side like that, how are you going to compare the apparent sizes accurately?
The only way to do that would be to take the photos under certain careful conditions, like taking photos from the earth and moon at the same time, with the same kinds of cameras and lenses, and making sure that you have some kind of landmark in both photos so that we have some means to judge angular distances. Just picking a random picture of the earth from the moon, and a random picture of the moon from the earth doesn’t actually tell you anything useful, since you are not making a scientific comparison and you have no context in which to judge most of the relevant factors.
Now, why hasn’t NASA or some other outfit done that? Probably because they all know the earth isn’t flat and what size the moon and earth are, so there is no actual knowledge to be gained from doing that type of exercise, so no scientist is going to waste their time and precious research dollars to do it.
“Yet remember, we cant go back to the moon cuz its just too hard, according to NASA.”
Lol wut? NASA is planning missions to return to the moon right now.
There is no question of it being “too hard” to return to the moon, it just costs a hell of a lot of money, and since we already went there a bunch of times and found a dead ball covered in dust, it’s not very easy to convince Congress that it is worth dumping billions of dollars into a program to do that again without some compelling reason.
“notice the shadow on earth is upturned when it should be a flat line or curved down”
Umm, the shadow is curved because you are looking at the terminus line, the point on the earth where the division between day and night occurs. Oh yeah, and that line appears curved because the earth is a SPHERE.
Apparent size works too. Angular diameter or angular distance is what we would use to measure the apparent size. Of course if you have photos taken with unknown cameras with unknown lenses and unknown zoom settings from unknown locations at unknown times when the earth and moon are in unknown positions in their orbits, it is going to be impossible six ways from Sunday to determine the actual angular distances.
I’m sure we could do research and figure out some of those variables but I doubt we could get all that information, and we certainly can’t make any useful judgements without even trying to obtain that information.
My point: There is no consistency in how these ‘terminus’ lines are shown in NASA photos of the earth from the moon in the same horizon shots. Upturned line, downturned line, straight line...just depends on the cgi artist interpretation, nothing from a real photo.
Your confidence in your conclusions based on the sources you trust is your privilege. Snarkiness does not contribute to the discussion but does help identify those champions of Settled Science. Thinking people realize there is no such thing.
“Upturned line, downturned line, straight line...just depends on the cgi artist interpretation...”
No, it depends on the positions of the earth, the sun, and the viewer, nothing more. Do a simple experiment, take a ball, then shine a light on it from various angles, and look at the ball from various angles. You will be able to produce with the resulting shadow an upturned line, a downturned line, and a straight line, depending on where you place the light source and where you look at the ball from.
Standard non-answer to a question that wasn't asked.
I have never stated the earth is flat but you keep saying that in order to not have to answer the real question.
Do you really think that no real questions could be answered by gathering data from a camera continually transmitting data to earth about earth from the moon? Why don't we have the same material they used to insulate the astronauts available in our homes? Or why don't we have the heating and cooling unit they used available for our use? You know the one that ran on a few batteries for days, could solve the fake global warming crisis over night.
Thanks looks interesting.
I have seen the moon appear to cover half the sky, but that is an illusion maybe affected by atmosphere, but I have never seen it appear golf ball size. Besides there is not supposed to be any atmosphere on the moon.
To be honest I have always been skeptical of the ability of the space suits to be pressurized in a vacuum and still display wrinkles.
“I have never stated the earth is flat but you keep saying that in order to not have to answer the real question.”
Sorry, you can say all you want that you’re just “asking questions” but it’s obvious by your comments that you think there is actually some room for debate as to whether the earth is flat or something like that, otherwise none of you posts make any sense at all.
“Do you really think that no real questions could be answered by gathering data from a camera continually transmitting data to earth about earth from the moon?”
I can’t think of any that couldn’t be answered much better by cameras on satellites. Plus there are the added advantages that satellites are much cheaper to launch and if something goes wrong, we can actually go up and repair a satellite.
“Why don’t we have the same material they used to insulate the astronauts available in our homes? Or why don’t we have the heating and cooling unit they used available for our use?”
Why don’t we make all our electrical wiring out of gold?
You continue to divert and avoid answering real questions. Not one question was answered with anything other than ridicule except the ones that you used the Everyone Knows meme.
Why dont we make all our electrical wiring out of gold?
Straw man arguments work best when they make sense. Maybe they are just too busy with real important stuff, like chasing an asteroid that would make us all trillionaire's.
“Not one question was answered with anything other than ridicule except the ones that you used the Everyone Knows meme.”
That’s not true, and if you are just going to lie then there is no point talking to you.
Which one did you answer?
Always accuse the other guy of doing what you are worked well 80 years ago, still works to see degree today.
