Interestingly enough, those magazine covers have disappeared from the interwebs, you can find a few from more recently that claim the wall of ice bearing down on NYC, and the erf in an ice cube covers are modern fakes.

Vast supplies of chocolate is our only hope...

If one eats enough chocolate, one become unpalatable to extinct hyenas when they reappear? How much chocolate does it take to ward off smilodons and short-faced bears?

It’s the only thing that could blunt the effects of a period, at least that was my experience.

A 500 year period?

That’s a truly terrifying though.

***What data set are you using to verify 1976?***

In Eastern Oklahoma...
The fall and Winter of 1976-1977 was one of the coldest I can ever remember. From Nov when the temp got down to 18 on Thanksgiving Day, (brutal wind made it feel like -20) through January when the entire continental US had cloud cover the entire month, to the brutal snow storms that year.

This was used as proof we were entering the New Ice Age!

Humans took a similar route to reach North America some 15,000 years ago, but the hyena migration happened much earlier.
The humans already in South America beg to differ. :^) So do the humans who didn't rely on land migration, e.g. the ancestors of everyone.
Thanks DUMBGRUNT.

Long legs probably helpful in a snow covered area.

The Canadian Lynx is very long-legged compared with the American Lynx (what we call bobcats around here).
