Grin, when it comes to *nix religious wars I tend to favor:

/opt over /usr/local...

KDE over Gnome, though I'm experimenting with Xfce on a new-to-me distro and I like it...

When it comes to the init vs systemd debate I actually don't care, as long as the beast boots...

And contrary to many Linux purists, I'll use proprietary software and drivers if I need to.

You sound a lot like myself. I have all of those same opinions, though I much prefer Xfce over KDE or Gnome these days.
