Acts like that commemorate specific dates in Islamic history - not he history you learned in school: The Battle of Vienna - which took place on September 11-12, 1683 - as a day of remembrance and revenge for Muslims; The Great Siege of Malta (September 11th, 1565); The Muslim Expulsion from Spain (Announced September 11th, 1609). All were major defeats of Islam and its armies. 9/11 is revenge.
