When rusty started losing weight I took him to the vet, they checked him out for any diseases, etc., but the vet said he was just old. Cats and dogs just don’t live forever. But we can give them love and a good life while they’re here.

My neighbor loves little dogs and she’s very lonely. I tried talking her into getting a little dog, but she said she wouldn’t be able to bear it if it died. I told her that any dog would appreciate love while it is here, we can’t just not have relationships with animals or people because it would hurt us if something bad happens. And, as hoosiermama say, even elderly animals (and people) appreciate love in their final years.

Ask Dolly and Lucy.

Thank you for that post to Lysie, for it has meaning to me. I lost my beloved Bentley boo-boo bear last Friday. He was older and had just had a blood test redone because the vet was worried about some of the values. Thursday while just getting in my car at my business to come home the vet called me and was somewhat more optimistic about the second set of values on the redone test. I was very relieved and it takes me 12-15 minutes to commute home.
When I walked in the door he was just laying on the floor with throw up around him and at first thought he was just sick to his stomach, I realized it was something more and drove him to the emergency vet and they tried to save him, but couldn’t.
I also am alone, so the loss is magnified by that, and I just really bonded with the two dogs that I have had in my life. I’m somewhat ok at my business, but I’m a total wreck at home, I’m normally a real homebody, but I can’t stand being here.
Your words of encouragement to Lysie struck a chord with me, so thank you.

To all pet parents: There is nothing more calming than a pet and when we loose them it is so painful. When my little poodle guy was 14, Vet said he had cardiac heart failure and needed $$$$$. I was fortunate enough to find a vitamin heart blend to give me 4 more years with him (what a blessing) and when he left this earth I cried for days and felt my heart was ripped out. That was 4 years ago, but when this topic came up it felt like only yesterday.
Prayers for everyone with all the pain involved.
#WeLoveOurPets
Blessings to everyone.
