I've seen 4 or 5 pics of the man. In all, he had short hair, was clean shaven and had a neat appearance. It's possible he recently changed his appearance, but not many people change from clean cut to punk rocker at 32.
I noticed some witnesses described the "man with a mohawk arguing with a woman with a child", though the officer is described as a man. Family described French as "non-verbal" and it's hard to argue when you don't speak. It's possible French was not the "man with a mohawk".
Also, it's hard to imagine releasing a person involved in a shooting before at least reviewing the video, assuming at least one of the many, many cameras in the Costco captured to event. The only exception would be if the shooter is LEO.
