It was 1967 and my brother and I purchased a 1937 Nash Lafayette 5 window coupe that a guy had stored in our grandmother's garage. Price was $150 and it did not run.
A copper head gasket, new 6 volt battery, a few other things and she fired right up. We painted it candy apple red metalflake with an old Sears spray gun.
I think the tires were original with a flat spot from years of storage.
I was 15 and my brother was 14, Dad helped us when we needed it.

My first keep it running car was a 67 ford fairlane, then a 67 firebird, then 70 Ford ranger 250. I never was wealthy enough in my mind anyway to hire a mechanic. My latest adventure involved a 2006 Subaru Outback. Pulled the engine changed out the heads and dropped it back in. I own two Dodge Ram pickups. Had to change the 4X4 02s VP44 injector pump once. A couple sets of front ball joints My 93 Jeep Cherokee has 374,000 miles on the straight 6. Ibuilt a heated shop cause Im to cheap to hire things done I guess. Dad said you wanna drive, better learn how to keepem running. Hats off to all the shade tree mechanics. 🇺🇸
