Knowledge of the dog-like beast has spread in the United States via the nation’s growing South and Central American immigrant population. I love the word 'knowledge' thrown in there. It adds a 'science is settled' edge to the whole thing.

Once, when the kids were very young, they walked by a bush that a duck was using as a nesting spot...it came out and hissed and made threatening gestures....when they got home, they told us about the mad duck with the fiery eyes and venom-dripping fangs...
