Two college friends from D.R advised me not to travel there for vacation, even around the resorts because of alcohol, drugs, corruption, bribery by law enforcement, robbery and worse. A Fox news journalist in the D.R two nights ago reported how the same evening someone in the news crew, driving back in the early evening to the resort after dinner at a nice restaurant needed help with directions. He was robbed.
I heard he was messing with another man’s wife, who hired two thugs to gun him down.
He grew up there. I am not sure naïveté is the right term. He was clearly a target—and not for robbery. This appeared to be more of a hit than random violence.
He’s lucky he got off with just a couple bullets instead of taking a sip of bottled water from the hotel’s mini bar.
