Good news for one of the largest contributors to GDP: total nominal retail and food service sales increased 0.5% in May, and March and Aprils growth rates were revised upward 0.1% and 0.5%, respectively @uscensusbureau. #census
Total industrial production (IP), which measures the output of manufacturing, mining, and utilities and is an important economic indicator to forecast GDP growth, rose 0.4% in May, far above expectations of 0.2%. Over the past 12 months, IP has risen 2.0% - @federalreserve
Manufacturing output, a particularly important harbinger of the economy, (75% of total IP) rose 0.2% in May, in line with market expectations. The increase reflects higher output in automotive products, which rose 2.4% over the same period.

Great news for retail and food service sales! A 0.5% increase in May and a significant April revision from -0.2% to +0.3% show that the American consumer continues to spend adding to an already healthy and strong economy. @uscensusbureau
