Florida is the lightning capital of the United States. And Central Florida — from Tampa to Titusville — has the added distinction of being called “Lightning Alley.”
I should have been more clear in my initial comment. It just seems that all of the oddball, Darwin Award nominated occurrences seem to happen in Florida. This one just seemed to follow the pattern.
I know all about lightning and Florida. As my late brother, who lived around Broward County referred to them, "Florida Flicker and Flash" were good at recovering from power outages, since they had lots of practice.
