Years ago, movie critics discussed this. They said, the early movie makers were raised on great literature and made movies of great literature.
Today’s movie makers were raised on comic books.

adult watch other adults (living the extended childhood of Peter Pan) engage in children's games played with balls?

I thought “The Dark Knight” did an amazing job of taking comic book material and giving it an operatic feel.
But recent comic book movies have bored me.
Must be getting old.
