When I lived in Garden City, KS the Arkansas was dry most of the time. BTW, in Kansas they pronounce it Ar-Kansas with emphasis on the second part.

I still remember the great 1957 flood of the Arkansas River hitting Tulsa. This was before Keystone Dam was built.

We actually had water running in it most of the winter. Of course it disappeared as soon as the started the irrigation pumps
