Total bs
Yeah, with New Jersey on the list it is total BS. However, in Vermont we all have guns.
When I moved down here, I was looking for places in Ridgefield and the realtor told me that the crime was virtually non-existent in this area. I figured that was just snake-oil talk by a guy trying to sell me a house. But he ended up being right. This part of Connecticut is literally the safest place I have ever lived. I can't explain it. I know it's supposedly a deep blue state but all of the neighbors I've met are decent people and tend to be conservative.
That said, there are definitely areas of Connecticut to avoid, such as Bridgeport or New Haven. But in most of Fairfield county, it's extremely peaceful and the only sirens I've ever heard in my neighborhood were either for a fire, a car wreck or a medical emergency.
I ended up buying in Newtown (couple of towns away from Ridgefield) and it's pretty much the same here. Extremely quiet and peaceful with very nice neighbors. I don't even bother locking my car doors anymore. Yeah I know, the school shooting a few years ago but that was the one-time act of a madman. You can walk up and down any street around here day or night and nobody will ever hassle you. Ever. I can't explain it but I'm not complaining.
