ST. CLAIR COUNTY, MI -- The 45-year-old man who died after his vehicle slammed into a St. Clair County restaurant has been identified by police.
Deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office responded shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 5 for a vehicle that crashed into Mama Vicki’s Coney Island North, located at 4425 24th Avenue in Fort Gratiot Township.
A preliminary investigation revealed Christopher Fredendall, of Fort Gratiot Township, was headed south on 24th Avenue when he lost control of his Cadillac CTS and hit the building.
“According to witnesses, Fredendall and a 26-year-old woman from Marysville who was driving a Dodge Journey were involved in a road rage incident prior to the crash,” reads a Thursday, June 6 county sheriff’s office statement. “The witnesses told detectives from the Sheriff’s Office that the woman had passed Fredendall on the right shoulder of 24th Avenue as both vehicles were heading southbound near Carrigan Road.”
The road went from three to five lanes and Fredendall passed the woman’s vehicle on the right, swerved in front of her in the left lane and lost control, with his vehicle ending up hitting the restaurant, police said.(snip)
Fredendall was transported by Tri-Hospital EMS to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead from injuries suffered in the crash.

Gasp. That place is a landmark in Port Huron. My all-time favorite place to get Coney dogs. I’ve been intending to go there soon. Their dogs are so good that they’re worth driving 120 miles (240 roundtrip) to get.
