Let’s say illegal pesticide just as a starter. Then add herbicides that should not be used where humans can be exposed!
I’m thinking Chinese sold pesticide. Sprayed the hotel room and they checked in too early. Happened in US Virgin Islands and most recently in Dominican Republic.

Counterfeit booze made with methanol is a problem for tourists south of the border. Maybe Fiji, too.

It literally could be something they ate. I would think that’s the most likely explanation. Or bad drugs.
