Oh I have some fine neighbors. My wife died a little over a year ago and only one family paid their proper respects.
I have ways of keeping them out of my business. I do not want the law to get involved. I have told my son that under no circumstances should he allow any government official in our yard. He is to tell them that that they must contact me personally or my lawyer.
Most everyone knows to stay away and not cause any problems.
if neighbors see a trap without a valid license, I can get fined.
Nice neighbors you’ve got there. /sarc
At our suburban home we had a raccoon that was sick - acting like a zombie - passive, confused sort of “stuck” where a rock wall meets the house. I forget now what it had - but not rabies. Distemper?
I called county animal control, no help.
I called a professional guy, no answer.
Called another professional $100 trip fee, $100 removal, $50 disposal fee - he said “Just kill it and dump it in the garbage.”
I really do try to do things legally.
So my wife thought to call the cops. (Quiet suburban town).
The young cop comes out about a 15 minutes later (probably midnight now) and I’m asking what can be done about it.
“If it weren’t for all of your neighbors I would just shoot it.”
“I read up on the laws, and it is illegal for me to kill it - one has to be a pro, have a license, etc.”
“It is!? Well, that seems like a pretty dumb law. If it was me, I’d club it over the head with a hammer when nobody is watching, and toss it in the garbage. I’m going to leave now. And my report is going to say that the raccoon had wandered off before I got here. Have a nice night.”
